Trigger point
Trigger points therapy is a manual treatment technique used to relieve muscle pain. Trigger points are small areas of tension in skeletal muscle that are hyper-irritable. When these points are touched or stimulated, they can cause pain both in the surrounding area and in other parts of the body (referred pain).
Trigger points often develop due to chronic muscle tension, injury, poor posture, or physical overload. They are characterized by small lumps or indurations in the muscle that are sensitive or painful to the touch.
Trigger point therapy can be performed in a variety of ways, but generally relies on manual pressure techniques or with specific tools.
Main methods:
Ischemic massage: static pressure is applied to the trigger point, gradually increasing to a tolerable level for the patient. This pressure is maintained for a short period (30 seconds to a few minutes) until a reduction in muscle tension or pain is observed.
Myofascial release techniques: work on the muscle fascias (connective tissue that surrounds the muscles) to release tension and improve muscle movement.
Stretching: after treating the trigger point, the muscle is gently stretched to improve flexibility and prevent new trigger points from forming.
Benefits of Trigger Points therapy:
Reduction of local and referred pain
Improved mobility
Muscle relaxation
Prevention of further injury
